Carole Wood - Oamaru Franchise Owner
Hi, my name is Carole Wood and I am thrilled to announce that I have purchased the franchise for Driving Miss Daisy in the Waitaki district. My area encompasses Oamaru, Waimate, the Waitaki Valley through to Omarama and also south through Herbert, Hampden, Moeraki to Palmerston and all the little places in between.
I moved to Oamaru six years ago from Dunedin and soon realised that there were limited transport options available for people unable to drive themselves. Therefore when the opportunity arose to start up Driving Miss Daisy in Oamaru my partner, a local doctor, and I realised that this service could be extremely helpful to many people who do not drive. With our own experience of an elderly parent who is dependent on neighbours and friends for help with shopping and appointments in the U.K. we really appreciate how difficult life can be when you don’t drive.
I have a background in administration, sales and customer service. I have come to realise over time that the parts of my job that have given me the most satisfaction is not necessarily meeting “targets” but making a difference in someone’s day and helping them solve a problem or just simply making their day better. Following the February 2011 Christchurch earthquake I was working as a rental property manager. I spent many weeks helping to re-house people fleeing the quakes and found I spent as much time driving people to appointments and service centres as I did showing them properties. I hope that in this new business venture I will provide you with a service that is convenient, flexible, reliable and most of all fun. I look forward to helping you maintain your independence and building some good friendships along the way. When I am not on Daisy duty you are likely to find me cooking, reading, playing golf (quite badly), skiing, or indulging my two grandsons.
